First off, I would like to tell all my freinds in La. That there in are thoughts and prayers. The last thing they need is a storm such as Gustav. Take care you guys, and keep your families safe. Now, on to the fishing. Sept. 1st opening day of Snook season. Plenty of fish around and all willing to eat. Artificials and live bait, have both been doing well. Just inside the passes, or out on the beaches are the hot spots now. Live bait such as pinfish or larger green backs will do the trick. Redfish action will also be hot this month. Cut bait such as mullet, ladyfish, and crab have all been doing the trick in our dark water. Tarpon are still around in the harbor. Cut bait or live ladyfish, in the 20ft holes in the harbor have been producing a few fish. Along with the Myakka and Peace river bridges.
With all the recent rains we have had the last couple weeks. The snook fishing has turned on to be nothing short of spectacular. Larger fish holding in the creek mouths and spill ways. As usual this time of the month the bait threadfins, pilchards and pin fish are easy pickings. Pretty much two throws and your off fishing. The redfish are very active, and eating well with many fish over 6.5 pounds. Along the west wall and a few haunts over on the east side have been producing some nice fish. Pinfish and crab have been doing the trick for me. Tarpon have been active also, with alot of smaller canal fish. Some larger fish blowing up top waters on the east side just before light. Check the ladyfish schools and keep your eyes out for rolling fish. till next month.. tight lines Capt. Andrew Medina
Hot temps, and lots of rain made fishing a little tougher. Still lots of fish to be had. Red fish got under the bushes on a incoming tide. dead bait was the way to catch them. On charters we had many fish coming from cut pinfish. White bait was a little hard to come by this month also. Plenty of big threadies around to use as Snook bait. Big snook were laid up around the passes and beaches. Some 20lb fish were caught, these fish are more than willing to eat when you get a bait to them. Some areas around whiddens creek has some really nice fish. Find the moving cleaner water and you can set up shop. Also tarpon are in the harbor heavy. The 20ft holes are producing plenty of fish on big threadies.
